Deception

Is deception the act of deceiving or is it the other person's perception of the act or is it the person performing the deception?

Is makeup a deception? Plastic surgery? Contact lenses? Is charging rather than paying cash a deception? What about lying on a resume or buying a Hallmark card because you feel you should and not because you want to?

Is eating salad when your body craves cookes a deception? Calling in sick? Cheating on a test? Lying about your weight? Saying "I love you" when you don't? Breaking a promise?

In an attempt to deceive someone else are you really deceiving yourself?

Once it starts does it end?

"Oh, what a tangled web we weave when at first we practice to deceive"
Sir Walter Scott, Scottish author & novelist (1771 - 1832)

You made some great points, that definitely made me think things through a bit. I know that I definitely deceive myself, as it is so much easier than seeing the truth.

Thank you Murees! Sometimes I think it's easy to justify what we do for our own peace of mind but when it comes right down to it, it's the same for everyone.
